Overview
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to define the role of an Allied Health professional, and outline the importance of Allied Health professionals in delivering primary health care within Australia. This unit will outline the health status of various Australian populations, provide you with foundation knowledge about the health care services and insurance schemes available, and bring awareness to the biopsychosocial impacts of living with an illness, injury or disability. In this regard, you will gain an introductory skillset in the use of The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, applying this classification to various case studies across the semester.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from SUTE qualitative feedback
There was a perception that some unit content was reflecting progressive or political viewpoints that some students did not agree with.
It is recommended that the Unit Coordinator continues to clarify that the unit reflects the legal, ethical and professional standards governing healthcare practice. Health equity, inclusion and equitable access to healthcare are non-negotiable obligations for allied health professionals and are not presented as personal or political viewpoints.
Feedback from SUTE qualitative feedback
Some students expressed dissatisfaction with the weekly tutorial being scheduled from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
It is recommended that the Unit Coordinator continues to provide recorded tutorials for students who are unable to attend the scheduled class time, noting that tutorial times are determined through the University's timetabling process.
Feedback from SUTE qualitative feedback
Students requested additional resources, including assessment examples and templates, although these are already available on Moodle.
It is recommended that students are guided through relevant sections of the Moodle site during weekly tutorials, highlighting available assessment examples, templates and supporting resources to ensure they know where to find and how to use them.
