Overview
The aviation industry is a worldwide operation that requires companies around the globe to operate using the same standards to safely transport people and goods. Introduction to Aviation will provide you with an overarching view of the aviation industry. This will include the history of aviation, airlines, airports, air space management, supply chain systems, emergency medical providers, sustainable aviation, future technologies and space.

There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

2 Written Assessment
This will be a 500 word executive summary, excluding references, as part of a group activity to be used for the final presentation. The written assessment will be submitted as a Word document only. The group will consist of four students and there will be four sections, Introduction, History, Current Systems, Future Systems. Each student will be assigned one of the four sections. The group will choose an aviation topic of their choice to write about. Each student will research the topic and cite the author and source using APA referencing style. The four written assessments will be combined to be used as the group presentation in Assessment 3. The written assessment will be completed by the students paraphrasing the researched material using APA style. Students will submit their individual reports through Turnitin as a Word document only. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Please save/upload your file in either a Word format (.doc or .docx). Text should be word-processed, with appropriate layout and use of headings/sub-headings. Font and line spacing are not part of the assessment criteria, listed below.
Diagrams should be used to illustrate specific aspects - a picture paints ten thousand words! (please ensure that you correctly cite/reference all sources of diagrams used, unless they are original and composed by you, since this is an important aspect of academic integrity).
Please avoid images with very large file sizes, as this will make your essay too large to upload/download (save any images as lower resolution, to decrease the file size).
The list of references should form the last page or two, at the end of the assessment. Referencing should be in APA style
The assessment will be graded on the detail provided on the topic. Clarity of writing and the connection of ideas to form the section of the report. Sources cited as per APA style. Grammar will not be graded but misspelt words not corrected will be. Paraphrasing of the researched material will be checked for accuracy. Write in complete paragraphs and not not one sentence bullet points to formulate your ideas.

3 Presentation
Students groups will record their group presentations in zoom and submit through the Moodle site. The presentation will consist of four Power Point Slides (minimum) from the combined individual written reports and will be limited to 15 minutes (maximum).

Group presentation - each student will complete one section of the presentation based on their portion of the written assessment. The presentation will completed as a group and will be done as if presenting to the CEO of an Airline!

What is a breach of academic integrity?

Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
