Overview
Construction Measurement is the measurement and quantification for cost planning and documentation of building works and associated civil engineering works. In this unit, you will learn how to measure, quantify and cost construction work including civil engineering works associated with buildings. You will be referring to Australian Standard Method of Measurement (ASMM) of Building Works as a uniform basis for the measurement of building works. With the comprehensive knowledge of measurement, you will then gain in-depth knowledge of unit rate estimating and project pricing associated with the acquisition of materials and labour on building and construction sites. Having fundamental knowledge, you will then be directed to software to perform 2D and 3D electronic measurement and estimating associated with Computer Aided Design (CAD). You will be introduced to architectural and project coordination software to signify the integral part of cost planning in a construction project.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Prerequisite: Construction Technology
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

1 Written Assessment
In this assignment, you will be referred to a proposed building construction project. Based on the given set of architectural and engineering drawings, you will asked to write a report covering all construction areas/ break down of trades, required for quantity take-off. When preparing your submission, it is important to follow the marking sheet and marking rubrics given. As with all assessments, formatting and presentation is really important, technical accuracy and referencing where required is paramount with an overarching requirement for demonstrating your answer / submission / design with clarity. Your submission must be done, via the assessment link in Moodle, by uploading your file, following the on-screen instructions. Your work will be processed through the similarity detection software, Turnitin. You may amend your work based on the detection report, prior to finalising the upload.

- Use of quality supporting documentation as appropriate;
- Use of original thought and content;
- Overall presentation and ability to communicate using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation and the use of appropriate diagrams and other visual communication; and
- Demonstration of core knowledge and demonstration of appropriate application of knowledge.
Marks will be allocated as specified in the assignment brief in the 'Assessment' block in the unit Moodle.

In this assignment task, you will be given a number of practical questions of quantity surveying and estimating. You need to come across with the solutions providing calculations, using an appropriate software (including Microsoft Excel). it is important to follow the marking sheet and marking rubrics given when designing the responses.

3 Case Study
Based on your report in Assessment task 1 (A1) previously, you will be directed by this assessment task (A3) to take-off quantities up to a particular level of the building construction. The next step of this task is to develop an estimation report utilizing the quantities previously obtained and other required details such as labour rates, material prices. Your estimation should be planned separately for trades and their sum to produce the total cost of the project. When preparing your submission, it is important to follow the marking sheet and marking rubrics given. As with all assessments, formatting and presentation is really important, technical accuracy and referencing where required is paramount with an overarching requirement for demonstrating your answer / submission / design with clarity. Your submission must be done, via the assessment link in Moodle, by uploading your file, following the on-screen instructions.
