General Information

Overview

In this unit, you will study the anatomy and physiology of the sensory, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, renal/urinary, and reproductive systems (of the human body). Further, you will also study the physiological regulation of these body systems, as well as their integrated role in the maintenance of health and/or development of disease.

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Grading

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Pre-recorded lectures are available from the Moodle site. Live tutorials will be delivered by Ryan. It is expected that students will review the weekly content, including the pre-recorded lectures, prior to attending tutorials.

Ryan du Preez has completed a Bachelor of Health (Biomedical Science) and a Bachelor of Science (Honours). His PhD on functional foods to improve metabolic syndrome is currently under examination.

Task Description

Each health profession possesses a body of knowledge, the fundamentals of which must be learnt and understood. The various health professions you have chosen to study have selected the body of knowledge and concepts taught in this unit as relevant to your future scope of practice and you will build upon them in your future coursework.

The purpose of the progress quizzes is to challenge your knowledge and understanding of the content as you progress through the unit.

1. There will be four separate online quizzes to assess your knowledge of the unit material.
2. Each quiz will have 25 questions.
3. You will be allowed two attempts at each quiz. The highest grade you achieve will serve as your final score for that quiz.
4. Your score from each quiz will contribute 12.5% to your final grade (4 quizzes x 12.5% = 50%).
5. There is a minimum requirement in the assessment task: 50% of available marks for this assessment item.
6. In the absence of an approved extension, there will be no opportunity to complete the task after the assigned date.
