Overview
On completion of this unit, students should be able to relate neurophysiology and pathophysiology to advanced clinical tests of neurological function including electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS) and evoked potential measurements. Therapeutic interventions for epilepsy and nerve entrapment will be discussed. Students will review all aspects of patient interaction including patient safety, legal and ethical issues and communication.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Pre-Requisite: BMSC12007 Neurological Physiology and Measurement
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). The unit coordinator for BMSC13006 Advanced Neurophysiological Measurement is Dr. Romeo Batacan Jr. You can contact Dr. Batacan via the Moodle forum or through email (r.j.batacan@cqu.edu.au). BMSC13006 Advanced Neurophysiological Measurement follows directly from BMSC12007 Neurological Physiology and Measurement and provides important scaffolding to clinical tests of neurological function that you were introduced to in year 2 of your study. The unit has a major focus on EEG, nerve conduction studies and evoked potential measurements. When you complete work integrated learning (WIL) it will give you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you learn in this unit to real workplace scenarios.
1 Written Assessment
As a clinical physiologist, you will be responsible for conducting various clinical neurophysiological investigations and interpreting the results. You will be presented with a clinical case scenario of a patient with a neurological condition and will be required to answer a series of questions related to the clinical case. This assessment is designed to assess your understanding of EEG, interpretation of data obtained from electrophysiological recordings and application of knowledge to a clinical environment. Details of the case study can be found on Moodle.

Level 3: You may use AI to assist with specific tasks such as drafting text, refining and evaluating your work. You must critically evaluate and modify any AI-generated content you use.
In developing your assignment, you should consult peer-reviewed journal articles and referenced textbooks. Extensive use of non-peer-reviewed sources of information is strongly discouraged.
If Generative AI is used in any way, it must be cited as per the CQU Guidelines (Academic Learning Centre). The following statement must be completed and included on the front page of the uploaded assessment:
"I have used (insert technology) to (insert how you used this) in accordance with the requirements of this unit. The reason I used this was to (explain why you used it). As per academic writing requirements and assessment criteria; citations of information should be of the primary source (i.e statistics returned by AI must be fact-checked and referenced from their original source as well as the AI source). Failure to cite primary sources as well as AI sources could be considered breach of academic integrity.
Your use of Generative AI must be clearly outlined in an appendix including the prompt used and Generative AI response. Failure to include an appendix may result in academic integrity investigation.

The assessment will be based on the criteria of knowledge of theory, rationalisation and justification of elements of knowledge, interpretation of data, presentation of information and referencing. A detailed marking rubric will be available on Moodle.
Please note that all late assessments will be penalised 5% per calendar day unless an application for extension has been approved.

2 Online Test
You will be required to complete an end of term online test. This online test will assess all content covered throughout the term. The test will be composed of different question types that will assess your understanding and application of key concepts discussed in the unit. Please see the Moodle site for more details.
Level of GenAI use allowed:
Level 1: You must not use Al at any point during the assessment. You must demonstrate your core skills and knowledge.
The 72-hour grace period does not apply to this assessment.
