General Information

Overview

In this unit, you will gain a knowledge of the history of your major (either Dance or the Theatre) and a working understanding of Technical Theatre. You will also study kinesiology, anatomy and how the body moves in performance whilst considering the role of nutrition in maintaining a healthy body. You will learn to apply principles from each of these areas into your own practice.

There are no requisites for this unit.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Grading

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

2 Presentation

Assessment Title
In - class presentation

Task Description

Perform a movement analysis for one of the options listed below and present your findings in the tutorial session. The presentation should include practical/physical demonstration, which can be supported with electronic media.

  1. Dance movement of your choice, examples could be:
    1. First-position parallel plié (starting from and ending at the bottom of the parallel first position plié with the knees bent)
    2. Arabesque (starting from and ending in first-position turned out)
  1. Select your own – this could be a squat, push up, handstand, gym exercise, common daily movement pattern or yoga asana. Submit your suggestion to the tutor for approval before starting the assignment.

Task Description

You will be allocated an Australian Arts Organisation that you will investigate and report on key findings. These may include - operations, community reach, key stake holders, funding sources and personnel. The presentation may also include role play elements and simulation of a key role from the organisation.Your presentation will be 7 - 10 minutes in length.
