General Information

Overview

Through structured workshops, critiques and individual studio investigations, you will explore ways of using select media to establish your own emerging studio practice. You will develop cogent relationships between selected materials and ideas to create engaging, culturally relevant artworks. To do this you will also consider how visual art conventions may be adopted, adapted or carefully disrupted to maximise the success of your creative works.

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Grading

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

The best aspects of this unit is the opportunity to use the theoretical concepts and apply them to a visual arts practice. The way that this unit is designed is awesome because it is easy to navigate and find information and everything on the Moodle site is relevant to the unit.

Assessment Title
Creative Project Plan.

Task Description

To support the planning of your creative project this term, you will complete a Creative Project Plan (900 - 1350). You will do this by completing the Creative Project Plan Worksheets (Moodle).

Please note: The word count is considered from the first word of the introduction to the last word of the conclusion. It excludes the cover page, abstract, contents page, reference page and appendices. It includes in-text references and direct quotations.

Learning Log

Task Description

For this assessment you will complete a learning log (1150-1200 words, + or – 15% of word count). The learning log will document and critically reflect upon the production of a small series of related, investigative artworks (or larger, single artwork). The learning log will demonstrate how you have refined your approach and working procedure in order to establish an emerging, contemporary visual art practice. The learning log will also describe how you have sought to develop meaningful relationships between your selected media, concepts and production processes.


To complete assessment 2, you will be required to complete the Learning Log Worksheet template supplied (in Moodle) for this assessment.



In the learning log you will record your:

· Fortnightly progress summaries.

· Critical reflection on the work of relevant, established visual artists.

· Critical reflection on ways to refine your techniques and processes and improve how your artworks communicate to an identified audience.

· Description of how you have assimilated the critical feedback of others.

· Workplace Health and Safety issue summaries.


Please note: It is essential that you complete the learning log by using the Learning Log Worksheet template provided. Please observe the word count as it relates to each component of the Learning Log Worksheet template. The word count does not include the worksheet template question.
