Overview
This unit introduces you to professional communication concepts that are relevant to a career in information and communication technologies (ICT). Topics include negotiation, teamwork, conflict management, academic referencing, library skills, and oral and written communication. The unit introduces awareness of cultural diversity and its management in a multicultural workforce.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
COMM11003 Communication in Professional Contexts is an anti-requisite for COIT11239.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

1 Group Work
Assessment 1 involves the following tasks:

2 Presentation
Assessment 2 involves the following tasks:
- Task 1: Practice Presentation (15%)
- Task 2: Final Presentation (20%)
- Quiz 1 (5%)
- Quiz 2 (10%)
You are to present on contemporary Information and Communication Technology (ICT) topics to showcase your verbal and non-verbal communication and presentation skills. You will be researching ICT topics, developing slides and presenting during your workshop. Refer to the unit’s Moodle website for further details.
Students attending online will require a webcam, microphone and speaker or headset.
Task 1 (Due Week 7 in-class) / Task 2 (Due Week 10 in-class) / Quiz 1 (Due Week 5) / Quiz 2 (Due Week 12)
Within 2 weeks after the submission due date
Assessment of the presentation tasks will be based on factors including stage presence, appropriate use of time, gestures, vocalised non-verbals, speaking rate, style, framing and mechanics, grammar, punctuation, spelling, slideshow content and structure and groupwork. The criteria for the quizzes vary but you will typically be assessed on the correctness of the written answer you provide to questions.

3 Written Assessment
Assessment 3 involves the following tasks:
- Task 1: ePortfolio (4%)
- Task 2: ePortfolio Peer Assessment (1%)
- Task 3: Article Analysis (15%)
For Tasks 1 and 2, you are to create an ePortfolio to provide evidence that you have achieved each of the unit learning outcomes.
Task 3 is a written assignment involving an article analysis. During the Week 11 workshop, you will be required to read and analyse an article and answer related questions. This supervised assessment has to be completed in-class within your 3-hour workshop.
The aim of this assignment is to allow you to demonstrate your ability to apply and share expert ICT knowledge.

Tasks 1 and 2 will be returned 2 weeks after the submission date. Task 3 will be released on Certification of Grades Day
