Overview
In this unit, you will create web sites that provide an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of devices. The basics of developing web pages will first be discussed, along with the theory and practice to support this development. Then, using responsive design, you will develop solutions that adapt the layout of the viewing environment by using fluid grids, proportional images and layout rules. A mobile-first approach is taken, where you will learn problem solving and programming skills to provide progressive enhancement, producing innovative and engaging digital content for mobile devices and for desktop systems.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback from Student feedback
The unit could improve by introducing web design basics, such as HTML and CSS, alongside heuristics from the start, rather than focusing on theory for several weeks before practical lessons.
Based on student feedback, the tutorials should be restructured to introduce introductory HTML and CSS practical lessons alongside design heuristics in Weeks 1 and 2. This will ensure early hands-on engagement and a better balance between theoretical foundations and technical skills from the start of the term.
