General Information

Overview

Advanced Public Relations draws on the theoretical information learnt in Introduction to Public Relations to assist you to develop a professional PR campaign. With a focus on professionalism, you will learn ethics, the use of technology in PR and presentation skills in order to develop your campaign. You will learn the necessary components of a successful PR campaign including the development of goals, objectives, messages themes, strategies, research and evaluation. Within this unit there is an emphasis on ensuring you are prepared for work in the public relations industry.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

Prerequisite: 36 credit points

Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

It is recommended to continue the 'pitch and poll' activity as a means of engaging students early in the term, and obtaining student buy-in to project ideas.

It is recommended to continue using real clients as projects, to reinforce the authentic nature of the assessment.

Whilst challenging, the allocation of teams was realistic and grading was fair.

Recommendation

It is recommended to continue using the Self and Peer assessment tool to ensure that all students are recognised for their individual contributions to the teamwork assessment, and that grading is fair based on contribution.
