General Information

Overview

This unit gives you an opportunity to undertake a project of your choice in the Public Relations discipline in which you have already done a substantial amount of study. The project is flexible and is designed by students in consultation with academic and workplace supervisors. It may involve academic research into Public Relations practice or a professional work placement with an approved organisation (minimum 120 hours). Academic and workplace supervisors will work with students to devise assessment tasks that will meet negotiated and specific project learning outcomes.

Previous Student Feedback

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Feedback from Have Your Say and Student Evaluation

Feedback

The options in the assessment types provide flexibility that suits the personal circumstances and career goals of students.

Recommendation

It is recommended to continue offering the option of a work placement, media project or research paper as this reflects the intent of a capstone unit and the flexibility for students to individualise the assessment relevant to their personal circumstances and career goals.

Feedback from Have Your Say and Student Evaluation

Feedback

The first assessment as a 'pitch' allows students to think through the unit before committing to a certain assessment type.

Recommendation

It is recommended to continue having a 'pitch' as the first assessment, shared with the student cohort, as a means of engaging students early and helping students think through the implications and requirements of their chosen assessment type, whilst having the opportunity to amend the project to ensure a better chance of success.

Feedback from Unit Coordinator reflection

Feedback

The critical reflection assessment performs a valuable function in meeting the overall Unit Learning Outcomes in a way that is realistic and useful for the student.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the critical reflection remain a separate assessment task.
