General Information

Overview

Resource use and environmental issues are difficult for society to evaluate and balance. You will be introduced to some of the most important economic concepts that relate to environmental issues, and provide a framework for evaluating policy choices. Among the topics you will cover are project and policy assessment tools, environmental valuation and accounting methods, and the efficiency of different institutions and mechanisms that guide environmental choices.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

Prerequisite: Minimum of 24 Units

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

'This unit has completely changed the way I look at and address issues in the Environment. This unit has armed me with extremely important information, resources, and strategies to truly make a difference. Any student studying environmental science or wanting to work in conservation, land, and water management or work within ecosystems or environments needs to do this unit'.

Recommendation

A primary goal of this Unit is to equip students to apply the contents of the Unit to real-world environmental economics problems. The Unit will continue to embed the applied and policy-relevant contents in the delivery.
