General Information

Overview

This unit builds upon content from previous units to extend your understanding of biomechanics as it relates to human movement. In this unit, you will explore areas of musckuloskeletal mechanics, biomechanics of locomotion, and the application of biomechanical principles to sports, and strength and conditioning. Through practical activities, you will develop skills necessary to conduct advanced biomechanical analyses as well as develop your ability to think critically about biomechanical data and research.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

Pre-requisite Units: ESSC12004 Exercise and Sport Biomechanics AND ESSC11002 Measurement and Evaluation Co-requisite Unit: ESSC13007 Functional Anatomy OR ESSC12010 Functional Anatomy

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

It is recommended that a variety of assessment types continue to be offered, ensuring align with the learning outcomes and the applied nature of the unit.

Feedback from Informal feedback from students and staff reflection

Feedback

Students enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the laboratory component; however, the face-to-face laboratories should be held earlier in term to concise with lecture material as well as assessment items.

Recommendation

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the face-to-face laboratory component of the unit was held after the exam period of Term 2. It is intended that this laboratory component be offered earlier in Term 2 to align with lecture content and assessment items.
