General Information

Overview

This unit develops essential media engagement skills valuable across diverse professional contexts. You will gain practical understanding of how news and information flow through modern media channels, building expertise in crafting and delivering compelling content for different audiences. The unit combines news principles and storytelling techniques with strategic communication skills, teaching you how to research, write and structure effective media materials. You will learn to navigate the contemporary media landscape, develop professional relationships with journalists, and create engaging content across traditional and digital platforms. Through examining real-world cases and ethical considerations in local and global contexts, you will build transferable skills in professional communication that are increasingly vital in many career paths.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
