Overview
In this unit you will build upon your knowledge of normal and abnormal histopathological features for a range of tissues along with normal and abnormal cytopathological features of a range of cells. The relationship between cellular injury, immune response, tumour formation, infection and pathological dysregulation of tissue organisation will be explored in relation to clinical cases you may encounter. You will develop the knowledge and skill to advise on the investigation of disease and recommend further investigations that will include the latest techniques in immunohistochemistry and fluorescence imaging and molecular pathology.

Prerequisites: LMED29002 Anatomical Pathology 1
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). As the name suggests, this unit will provide you with an extension of knowledge gained in foundational LMED29002 Anatomical Pathology 1 unit. LMED29010 Anatomical Pathology 2 is an elective unit in the CM18 - Master of Laboratory Medicine course.
Tutorials will be delivered each week, primarily from the Melbourne campus or online. Students who are enrolled in either mixed mode, Rockhampton or Sydney campus will be able to join these clases via Inter-Switch Link (ISL) or Zoom. Students enrolled on campus will be expected to attend tutorial classes live from their respective campus. These tutorials will also be recorded for the benefit of those students who are unable to attend the live classes. During the tutorials, you will work through the weekly topics or study questions that are provided to you on the Moodle site. These discussion topics and weekly study questions will help you apply knowledge learned during the weekly lectures and prepare you for the assessments. You will gain the most benefit from the tutorials if you explore the weekly lectures beforehand and attempt the weekly study questions and associated learning activities that have been provided on the Moodle site. You are strongly encouraged to commit to the recommended study hours outlined below and participate in tutorials, as studies have shown that students who attend the tutorials and are active in discussions have higher rates of success (Karnik et al., 2020). Weekly learning activities such as revision quizzes and crossword puzzles are also provided to reinforce the knowledge you have gained from the lectures and to support your learning experience in this unit.
As per Australian educational standards, you are expected to commit 150 hours of engagement to your study of this unit for the term. This is broken down as:

1 Online Quiz(zes)
This assessment task requires you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of histological and cytological techniques that you learn in this unit.
You are required to complete two (2) online quizzes.
Each quiz will be comprised of multiple choice, true-false and short answer questions.
Your time limit for each quiz is 30 minutes.
The quiz will automatically submit at the completion of the 30 minute duration.
You will be allowed one (1) attempt at each quiz.
Each quiz is worth 12.5%, and overall will contribute 25% to your final grade.
You will only be able to access and complete Quiz 2 after you have attempted Quiz 1.

2 Written Assessment
This assessment requires you to think critically and relies on your knowledge of histopathology analysis to assess the accuracy of the information that is presented. This assessment is made up of multiple parts:
Part 1. Select a specific solid tumour malignancy of your choice. Using a Generative Artificial Intelligence application such as Copilot, generate a prompt asking for a histology staining panel that is required to diagnose your chosen malignancy in 200-250 words.
Part 2. Using this information, generate a flowchart that outlines all the key steps required from receipt of specimen through to final diagnosis in a Histology laboratory.
Part 3. Critique the generated response from GenAI in 500-750 words, with the use of no more than eight (8) peer reviewed articles published in the last five (5) years.

For Part 1. Level 4: You may use AI extensively throughout this part of your work as specifically directed in your assessment.
For Parts 2 and 3. Level 1: You must not use AI at any point during these parts of the assessment. You must demonstrate your core skills and knowledge.
