Task Description

This unit requires full-time attendance at a placement site arranged by the University for 18 weeks. You are required to achieve 100% attendance during your clinical placement. Any non attendance must be justified and verifiable supporting documentation must be supplied to your unit coordinator. You must inform the unit coordinator and your clinical supervisor of any absences. It may be that non attendance requires that you undertake supplementary clinical placements to make up any time lost. You are not permitted to work extra shifts back to back in order to reduce the duration of clinical placement. You must attend on your final day of clinical placement.

You have five (5) days of study leave built into this placement but must still attend for 18 weeks in total. The study leave may be taken as a block or in separate days and must be taken only with the agreement of your clinical supervisor.

3 Practical Assessment

Assessment Title
Assessment of Performance in General Imaging Procedures

Task Description

At this stage in your professional education, your performance should be consistent and holistic in nature, taking into account the needs of the patient, carers and the wider care team.
At weeks 9 and 18 of your placement your clinical supervisor or a supervising radiographer who has been delegated this role will perform a global assessment of your performance in general imaging procedures using the standard assessment form provided on the unit Moodle site.

These assessments are designed to offer an overview of your performance over time rather than the "snapshot" performance assessments used in previous clinical units.

At week 9 You should achieve a level of at least "consolidating" in all areas. If any areas of competency fall below the required level, you must complete a remediation plan detailing how you intend to improve your performance in this or these areas. This remediation plan must be submitted and approved by both your clinical supervisor and the unit coordinator by the end of week 11. During week 14, the area(s) of practise in need of remediation must be assessed again. The assessments in week 9 and 14 (if required) are formative but you should aim for a level of "consolidating" if you are to succeed in the summative assessment in week 18.

At week 18 - in order to successfully complete this unit you must demonstrate all of the competency areas at a level of “competent”.

Assessment Due Date

Within 3 calendar days of the end of the week in which the assessment took place.

Return Date to Students

Any areas of concern will be raised with the student and/or clinical supervisor within 2 weeks of submission

Weighting

  • Degree of independence when performing imaging procedures
  • Time efficiency of the procedure
  • Professional reasoning
  • Patient care
  • Reflective practice
  • Self development
  • Protocol use
  • Attitudes to learning
  • Interprofessional collaboration

To achieve a grade of "requirements met" you must:

4 Practical Assessment

Assessment Title
Assessment of Performance in Other Imaging Procedures

Task Description

At this stage in your professional education, your performance should be consistent and holistic in nature, taking into account the needs of the patient, carers and the wider care team.

During this practicum, you are required to attain entry-to-practice skill in two additional areas within the scope of practice of a general radiographer. These can be any two from the list below, according to what is available at the facility you are attending for the practicum. You will need to consult with your clinical supervisor to determine two suitable areas of practice and to arrange your roster to attain several weeks of experience in each.

  • Basic computed tomography including contrast examinations, but not including angiography examinations.
  • Basic fluoroscopic guidance procedures, not including theatre imaging
  • Imaging procedures that require a team approach and complex imaging requirements. This may include, but is not limited to, the resuscitation area, major trauma or highly involved patient needs.
  • Theatre fluoroscopic imaging
  • Interventional radiography
  • Mammography

These assessments are designed to offer an overview of your performance over time rather than the "snapshot" performance assessments used in previous clinical units.

You must achieve a level of "consolidating" in these areas. If any area of practise falls below this level, you must complete a remediation plan detailing how you intend to improve your performance in this or these areas. This remediation plan must be submitted to and approved by your clinical supervisor and unit coordinator within one calendar week of the assessment. Within a further 3 weeks the area(s) assessed as in need of remediation must be assessed again at the level of "consolidating"

You are strongly advised to complete both of these assessments by week 14 in order to allow time for the development, approval and implementation of a remediation plan if needed.

Assessment Due Date

To be uploaded within 3 days of the end of the weekly shift in which the assessment was performed.

Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.

When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.

Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.

As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.

What is a breach of academic integrity?

A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.

Why is academic integrity important?

A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
