General Information

Overview

This is a postgraduate unit which aims to provide you with training in research. You will be taught the foundation skills and knowledge to independently undertake an investigation of a research question in an area of nutrition, medical or allied health sciences. This involves the application of scientific research methodologies to a research problem, the development of a research proposal, the completion of an ethics application, a research project, and the presentation of research. You will have the opportunity to further expand on your research knowledge if undertaking the Medical Science Research Project 2.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites

Pre-Requisites: Enrolment in CL88 Master of Nutrition and Dietetics Or The completion of 96 credit points in one of the following courses: CG93 Bachelor of Medical Science (Clinical Nutrition major) CM60 Bachelor of Nutrition CM61 Bachelor of Nutrition/Master of Nutrition and Dietetics

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback

Students preferred an analytic rubric compared to the holistic rubric style.

Recommendation

The rubric was based on a TEQSA example and peer reviewed by markers. Mark allocation was discussed with the markers. Consider using a hybrid holistic rubric if this unit is rerun.

Students found the task guidelines and assessment overview lectures helpful but would have like an exemplar for each assessment.

Recommendation

Continue to provide a task guideline and associated lectures to students. Exemplars can be provided for both assessments if this unit is rerun.
