Overview
This unit introduces, defines and explains supply chain management. The concept and practice of supply chain management has grown dramatically in recent years. It is now considered that in many markets, it is the supply chains that compete and not individual organisations. Supply chain management requires collaboration between functions such as: marketing, procurement, operations, logistics, distribution and after market service within organisations and collaboration with outside suppliers, manufacturers and distributors. It requires sophisticated communication, extensive trust, and high level management skills. The objectives of the supply chain manager are: seamless movement of goods; efficient and effective delivery systems which are customer focused; cost minimisation of processes; simplification of all processes; and total quality of product delivered and associated services.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
There are no requisites for this unit.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University's Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

2 Written Assessment
The assessment is designed for students to apply key supply chain management concepts, methods and tools used to analyse a supply chain. The assessment involves writing a 1000 word paper responding to assessment questions related to specific case material. Write a 1000 word paper about the supply chain at Lego. Your paper must respond to the following questions a to d. Compare and contrast the supply chain operations of Lego with the concepts and principles of:
a) Risk pooling.
b) Bullwhip effect.
c) Lead-time.
d) Postponement and positioning of push-pull boundary.

Responses to assessment questions must demonstrate in depth understanding of the key supply chain management issues and appropriate application of supply chain management concepts, methods and tools. The questions have equal weight, i.e. 20 percent for each of the four questions.

Direct quotations used sparingly and main arguments clearly stated.

Appropriate in-text referencing and reference list.

3 Written Assessment
The assessment is designed for students to apply key supply chain management concepts, methods and tools used to analyse and design a supply chain. The assessment involves writing a 2000 word short business report responding to assessment questions related to specific case material. Your task is to write a 2000 word report responding to two (2) of the following challenges.
What changes should Lego make to its global supply chain, if any, to address the supply chain opportunities and risks associated with the effects of:
- Growth in global online shopping.
- Brexit in the United Kingdom.
- United States trade wars and protectionism towards Canada, Mexico, European Union and China.
- China's economic growth and trade ambitions.

Thorough understanding of relevant supply chain management concepts, principles, theories, tools and models in regards to the case study and the questions. 60%
Appropriate and well structured, concise and clear expression of supply chain management arguments. 10%
Clear flow of thought throughout the paper with a clear and succinct purpose described in the introduction and a clear and succinct conclusion. 10%
Critical review skills and integration of relevant academic and profession literature. A minimum of eight (8) academic journal articles must be used. 10%
Appropriate in text referencing and reference list. Adherence to CQUniversity APA referencing standards. 5%
Clarity of expression, grammar and spelling. Appropriate presentation format within (±10%) of the word limit: 2000 words. 5%
