Overview
This unit focuses on the production of goods and services in a multitude of operations that provide for the needs of people in our increasingly globalised economy. In this unit, you will gain insights on how output is achieved smoothly, efficiently, and profitably to meet the needs of organisational customers and clients. This unit will enable you to gain knowledge and skills to recognise the need for improvements within an organisation's business model and value chain. For example, you will examine productivity management, quality control, facilities management, and project management. The unit will enable you to design and develop production and operating systems while also applying a number of generic problem-solving techniques. This unit allows you to focus on an organisation, industry, or sector of your choice from a selected list of options for all assessments.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Completion of 48 credit points in the first year of equivalent full-time study.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses
Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Business reports from McKinsey & Co. and others state that AI will quickly become embedded in contemporary business operations and processes.
Students studying operations management must be comfortable using AI and able to assess how digital AI technologies can possibly enhance business operations.
The recommendation is to continue introducing students to AI for operations management. However, it must be clear that students must use AI responsibly. Students' AI use must be guided by students' competent critical thinking, self-reflection, and ethical considerations, while ensuring academic integrity. It is recommended to continue to inform students about current AI developments and their impact on business operations.
