Overview
Throughout this unit, you will acquire fundamental knowledge and skills to provide basic nursing care at at beginning level. In particular, you will be able to conduct a holistic assessment and assist a person with their activities of daily living in the simulated environment. You will be introduced to the significance of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (2016) and other policies, codes, and guidelines relevant to professional nursing practice. You will explore the importance of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards (2017) to all nursing practice in Australia and commence using the Patient Safety Competency Framework (PSCF) (Levett-Jones et al., 2017) in your practice as a nursing student. You will become familiar with scope of practice using the decision-making framework (DMF) (NMBA, 2020). You are required to participate in compulsory on-campus workshops or a residential school for this unit.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Pre-requisite:Must be enrolled in CL91 Bachelor of Nursing or CG41 Start Uni Now
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

The maths component of the unit should be completed at home before attending residential school. Issues with clarity.
The maths exam is invigilated and therefore requires lecturers to oversee it as it is in progress. The exam questions are reviewed by the Head of Course (HoC), Head of College (HoC) and the Dean of Learning and Teaching (DDLT). This process will continue every term.

1 In-class Test(s)
You will complete each attempt during your on-campus learning sessions.
This invigilated quiz will be completed during your planned on-campus classes and will assess your knowledge and understanding of mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, rounding, and conversions.
The quiz consists of 20 questions. You have a maximum of one hour to complete the quiz. You must complete the quiz in one sitting, under the direct supervision of a lecturer. Once you have started the quiz, you cannot log out. Please do not refresh or reload your screen; this may close the quiz and record your result.
The quiz will automatically close at the end of one hour and will submit your result.
You have a maximum of three attempts to complete the quiz. Each attempt will be held on a different day while on campus.
If you require an additional attempt, you must undertake remediation by completing a learning package and practice quiz before subsequent attempts. These learning packages are available on the Maths Central platform on Nursing Central. It is your responsibility to complete this between each attempt.

Results will be given at the end of the quiz
The quiz consists of 20 questions. You have a maximum of one hour to complete the quiz. The quiz will be completed using Moodle in an invigilated setting. You must achieve 100% to pass the quiz.

2 Practical Assessment
The practical clinical skills assessment evaluates your nursing practice against the registered nurse standards for practice.
To undertake this assessment, you will participate in a simulation-based activity, demonstrating safe practice through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
You will be provided an opportunity for three attempts to pass this assessment and must engage in feedback and reflection before each attempt.
All attempts are conducted face-to-face during residential school.
Assessment will be undertaken during on campus classes.
Results will be available on the day of completion
This Practical Clinical Skills Assessment will be based on the skills and theory you have covered during your unit. To attain a pass, you must satisfactorily complete all areas of the clinical skills assessment tool, found on the NURS11166 Moodle site.
1. The student demonstrates effective communication skills

3. The student uses the patient three patient identifiers to confirm the patient's identity
4 The student explains the procedure to be undertaken and gains consent
5. The student demonstrates an understanding of the five moments of hand hygiene and infection control principles

7. The student demonstrates correct positioning of patient and self during taking of vital signs
8. The student demonstrates an understanding of the required clinical assessment and relevant documentation

3 Online Quiz(zes)
Note: There are two quizzes associated with this assessment item.
The Online Quizzes will be available on Moodle during weeks 5 and 12 of the term. Each quiz will consist of 30 questions you have 60 minutes to complete each quiz. You are allowed one (1) attempt in each quiz. To pass each quiz, you must achieve a score of 60% or higher.
· Quiz one (1)-will cover content from weeks 1-5
· Quiz two (2)-will cover content from weeks 1-12
If you are unsuccessful in one or both quizzes, you may be offered a re-attempt of the quiz after the final quiz is completed. A re-attempt is where you are given a second opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of one or more of the unit's learning outcomes before you can progress to new learning or participate in subsequent learning activities. You may be given the opportunity to re-attempt an assessment but will only achieve a mark no greater than the minimum for a pass standard for the assessment. Re-attempts usually occur before the certification of grades and are separate from supplementary assessments.

It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
