Assessment 1 has two parts:

Part 1: Written Assessment

Before attending your residential school or first clinical learning session, it is highly recommended that you revise and practice previously taught medication calculations undertaken in Clinical Nursing Practice 1, 2 and 3. You will be required to achieve 100% in an online medication administration quiz using the Med+Safe software program in an on-campus clinical learning session in the first hour of your residential school or internal classes. If you score less than 100% in your first attempt, you will be provided with an additional two (2) opportunities to achieve a Pass. The second attempt will be before completing your residential school or your final clinical learning session. The third attempt will be required to be completed by the Thursday before your scheduled clinical placement. If you are one of these students, you will need to contact the unit coordinator for guidance. If you are not successful on this third attempt, you will not be able to proceed to clinical placement and will be a Fail for the unit.

Part 2: Practical Assessment of clinical skills.

This assessment will be a simulation assessment activity focusing on your clinical abilities and safe nursing practice. You will be allowed 20 minutes to complete this section of the assessment.

You will be required to demonstrate your ability in a number of clinical skills while at the NURS13133 Clinical Nursing Practice 4 on-campus learning sessions. This assessment will take the form of clinical skills assessments within a simulation assessment activity along with a written component about the care you provided.

Assessment 1 consist of two (2) activities which must be completed in accordance with the criteria for a pass on the marking guide before a pass can be awarded.

Part 1: Written Assessment

To achieve a pass result you will need to achieve 100% accuracy in the on-line medication administration assessment quiz.

Part 2: Clinical Skills Assessment

Practical assessment of clinical skills will be based on skills covered during the on-campus clinical learning sessions. To achieve a pass you must achieve all the following components of each skill:

* Maintenance of standard precautions

* Effective communication

* Assessment of the situation and person

* Safe execution of the procedure

* Accurate, legal and legible documentation.

A detailed marking guide is available on the unit moodle site. Should you not achieve the required level to pass at the first attempt you will be required to develop skills under the direct supervision of an on-campus lecturer, then be reassessed by an on-campus lecturer.

This Summative Quiz will assess content from weeks 1-10. The online quiz is composed of 50 critical thinking questions. The online quiz is an individual task which must be completed within one block of 2 hours.

This summative quiz will OPEN 22/05/2017 CLOSE 28/05/2017.

Quiz questions will be derived from the unit NURS13133 Moodle site.

The 2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment requires the completion of a total of 160 hours are required for this unit where you will demonstrate your ability to perform the nursing role within your scope of practice as measured against the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.

If you receive an unsatisfactory result for your clinical placement you will not be eligible for supplementary assessment and will receive a fail grade for NURS13133 Clinical Nursing Practice 4.

The 2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment has been designed to enable you to demonstrate the development of professional attributes required by the registered nurse. The criteria in the 2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment is based on the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. These criteria will be used to evaluate your ability to perform your nursing role within your scope of practice and to determine your ability to meet the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice as per your current year level. For example, as you are a year 3 student it is expected that you will perform within the scope of practice of a year 3 nursing student and demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and clinical skills applicable to a year 3 nursing student.

Assessment criteria and performance standards for the 2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment includes:

• completion of the required hours of clinical placement as stipulated by the relevant unit coordinator;

• a self-assessment of your own clinical performance against the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice at both formative and summative stages of the clinical placement; and

• assessment and recording of your performance by the identified preceptor/clinical facilitator at both formative and summative stages of the clinical placement.

Further information on the assessment criteria is outlined in the '2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment' available of the Clinical Moodle site.

If you are identified as not achieving the required standards or competency for your year level you may be required to complete further learning as outlined in an individual support plan. The unit coordinator in consultation with the student and clinical facilitator/preceptor will prepare the individual support plan. If you are still not able to achieve the required standards or competency level with the assistance and direction of the support plan a fail grade will be awarded.

Students who have failed to maintain satisfactory attendance and/or failed to complete a satisfactory standard in academic or professional components specified for the placement or who have failed to maintain an appropriate standard of conduct may be identified as at risk of failing to maintain satisfactory progress in the unit. Please refer to the Work-Integrated Learning / Student Placement Policy for further information.

IMPORTANT: It is important you refer to the 2017 Clinical Competency Performance Assessment prior to and throughout your clinical placement.

The portfolio consists of four (4) activities, all of which must be completed to a pass level as per the portfolio marking guide before a pass can be awarded. The portfolio marking guide is available on the unit Moodle site.

You are required to complete the following activities in order to meet the requirements for this assessment item.

• Cold Chain 2016 (iLearn@QHealth)
• VSPR Course Module 8 - Task Management
• (CIRCS-C) Queensland Cancer Education Program(Q-Cep) - Modules 1 to 5 (iLearn@QHealth)
• Annual Competency for Infection Control; Medication Safety and National Inpatient Medication Chart.
  

This assessment consists of four (4) activities, all of which must be completed to a pass level as per the portfolio marking guide before a Pass grade can be awarded.

A detailed marking guide is available in "Guideline and Requirements for Clinical Portfolio 2017" which can be accessed on the unit Moodle site.

You must achieve a Pass grade for Assessment 4 to be eligible to pass the unit.
