Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Overview
Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

1 Written Assessment
This assignment will require you to write a personal reflective journal related to the creative and
performing arts project undertaken during the term of study. The personal reflective journal is a learning
tool and is required to be submitted at the end of term. The journal will include scholarly reflection on what you
have set out to learn, how you have approached your learning, what you have achieved and what you would do
differently in future to improve your learning experience.
Although the personal reflective journal is primarily a journal of your artistic development through the project, it should also be a scholarly reflection and should be supported with references to relevant educational and/or creative practice published literature.
Things to include in your reflective journal:
- Observations on the experiences gained and techniques learned throughout the term;
- A weekly journal entry outlining the work covered in that week and its contribution to the project as a whole.
- References to articles in scholarly journals and books in your field of artistic/creative practice that supports the learning/artistic approaches you have used in this project;
- Discussion about the approaches you have used in this project, supported by literature in the field.
This reflective journal MUST include a reference list. The referencing style to be used is APA style, 6th Edition.
Week 12 Friday (6 Oct 2017) 11:45 pm AEST
Feedback will be provided on the Moodle site and hard copies of projects will be posted back to students.
The assessment criteria is arranged on an individual basis with students to align with the creative topic chosen. Students will be provided with the assessment criteria as part of the feedback given for the Project approval form (due at the end of Week 2).
Reflective journal criteria
- 25% Appropriate documentation of the project showing work completed on a week by week basis
- 25% Identification of specific challenges and analysis of methods used to meet these challenges

2 Practical and Written Assessment
IMPORTANT DATES:
Project approval: Friday of Week 2
Project completion: Friday of Week 12
Students will undertake a creative and performing arts project for the term that has a significant
practical component. It is expected that this project will require a minimum of 10 to 12 hours per week of self-directed
study. This is to be documented and discussed as part of Assessment item 1 – Personal reflective journal.
Before students commence their project they must seek project approval from the Unit Coordinator who will also assign a project supervisor as appropriate. The project approval form can be found on the Moodle unit website, and must be submitted to the Unit Coordinator before the Friday of week 2.
Evidence of the completion of the project must be submitted to the Unit Coordinator by Friday of Week 12. Students who are not able to meet these timelines due to the constraints of the project must seek an extension from the Unit Coordinator before the Friday of Week 12 or risk a Fail for the unit.
Types of possible projects
These samples are provided for the guidance of students enrolled in this unit. Other projects may be negotiated with the Unit Coordinator, but should be of similar scope.
- Regular performance in one or more musical or theatrical ensembles that includes weekly attendance at rehearsals and personal practice, culminating in a public performance or series of performances.
- Regular private instrumental or vocal lessons that include weekly lessons, regular personal practice, culminating in a public performance or examination (e.g. AMEB, Trinity College London, ANZCA etc).
- Composition or arrangement of musical works culminating in a CD recording. Number of works to be negotiated with the project supervisor.
- Choreography of a number of dance works or theatrical works. Number of works to be negotiated with the project supervisor.
-
Teaching project within a studio, classroom, band, dance group etc. This could be working towards a specific project such as an Eisteddfod performance or end of term concert.

- CD and/or DVD recording of the public performance (performance/ theatrical/choreographic projects);
- Certified copy of the Certificate/results sheet showing a Pass in the examination completed (music, dance or drama examinations);

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.
Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.
When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.
Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.
As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.
What is a breach of academic integrity?
A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.
Why is academic integrity important?
A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.
Where can I get assistance?
For academic advice and guidance, the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) can support you in becoming confident in completing assessments with integrity and of high standard.
