General Information

Overview

Building on the learning objectives of Creative and Performing Arts Project 1, the objective of this unit is to provide students with the opportunity to undertake a specialised unit of creative practice based study. This unit is to be undertaken in the creative and performing arts at first year level in an area that is not contained within the available units. Students will only be permitted to enrol in this unit with prior agreement from a discipline supervisor. Students interested in enrolling in the unit should contact the unit coordinator before enrolling.

Prerequisite: PERF12018 Instructor consent required. Contact unit coordinator before enrolling.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Grading

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Assessment Title
Reflective Journal

Task Description

Task: This assignment will require you to write a personal reflective journal related to the creative and performing arts project undertaken during the term of study. The personal reflective journal is a learning tool and is required to be submitted at the end of term. The journal will include scholarly reflection on what you have set out to learn, how you have approached your learning, what you have achieved and what you would do differently in future to improve your learning experience.

Although the personal reflective journal is primarily a journal of your artistic development through the project, it should also be a scholarly reflection and should be supported with references to relevant educational and/or creative practice published literature.

Things to include in your reflective journal:

  • Observations on the experiences gained and techniques learned throughout the term;
  • A weekly journal entry outlining the work covered in that week and its contribution to the project as a whole.
  • References to articles in scholarly journals and books in your field of artistic/creative practice that supports the learning/artistic approaches you have used in this project;
  • Discussion about the approaches you have used in this project, supported by literature in the field.

This reflective journal MUST include a reference list. The referencing style to be used is APA style, 6th Edition.

2 Practical and Written Assessment

Assessment Title
Performance project

Task Description

Students will undertake a creative and performing arts project for the term that has a significant practical component. It is expected that this project will require a minimum of 10 to 12 hours per week of self-directed study. This is to be documented and discussed as part of Assessment item 1 - Personal reflective journal.

Before students commence their project they must seek project approval from the Unit Coordinator who will also assign a project supervisor as appropriate. The project approval form can be found on the Moodle course website, and must be submitted to the Unit Coordinator before the Friday of week 2.

Evidence of the completion of the project must be submitted to the Unit Coordinator by Friday of Week 12. Students who are not able to meet these timelines due to the constraints of the project must seek an extension from the Unit Coordinator before the Friday of Week 12 or risk a Fail for the course.
