Overview
In this unit students will explore a broad range of complex disorders and clinical scenarios relevant to podiatry practice. Students will be required to apply high-level clinical reasoning to arrive at appropriate diagnoses relating to complex clinical scenarios and to develop, justify, and evaluate appropriate assessment and management strategies. Students will apply principles of interdisciplinary practice and will further refine their skills in clinical reasoning and reflective practice.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
All units in Year 4, Term 1.
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of 'pass' in order to pass the unit. If any 'pass/fail' tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully ('pass' grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the 'assessment task' section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Live face-to-face content delivered from Week 7 to 11 could be delivered in a more flexible online format to address the currently high Term 2 on-campus requirement for fourth-year students

1 Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs)
This assessment task will assess your practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the assessment and management of a range of conditions affecting patients in routine and complex situations. This assessment task will occur in Week 11 according to an assessment schedule which will be made available via Moodle. This assessment will cover material delivered up to and including Term 2, Year 4 of the Bachelor of Podiatry Practice (Honours) course.
The OSCE will include four 15-minute stations, addressing: neurovascular medicine, musculoskeletal and biomechanical podiatry, dermatology, and paediatrics.
The 72-hour grace period does not apply to this assessment item.
AI use allowed: Level 1 - No AI. You must not use AI at any point during this assessment. You must demonstrate your core knowledge and skills.
Week 11 Monday (28 Sept 2026) 9:00 am AEST
The OSCE will occur Monday Week 11.
Week 12 Monday (5 Oct 2026)
Marks and feedback will be made available to students via Moodle.
This assessment task will be marked according to a purpose-made marking rubric designed specifically for this assessment item. Students will be required to score a minimum of 50% in their OSCE in order to pass PODI14011.

- Prepare and evaluate goal-oriented evidence based management strategies recognising holistic and interdisciplinary management

2 In-class Test(s)
The In-class test (50%) will be in a form of a closed book class test covering content from Week 1-11, as well as pre-requisite knowledge from units delivered across the Bachelor of Podiatry Practice (Honours) course. Students will be required to attend on-campus to complete this class test. The class test will be 120 minutes long.
The 72-hour grace period does not apply to this assessment item.
AI use allowed: Level 1 - No AI. You must not use AI at any point during this assessment. You must demonstrate your core knowledge and skills.
Exam Week Monday (12 Oct 2026) 9:00 am AEST
The in-class test will occur in Exam Week.
Marks and feedback will be made available via Moodle within two weeks of the In-Class Test.
This assessment item will assess your knowledge of routine and complex case management and your knowledge of local and systemic processes related to podiatry. This assessment item will be marked according to a purpose-made marking rubric designed specifically for this assessment item. A minimum mark of 50% is required in order to pass PODI14011.
