This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

Previous Student Feedback

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Feedback from Have your say surveys, and feedback during class.

Feedback

Overall positive feedback was received regarding the current format of teaching practical manual therapy assessment skills of the lower limb in the PSIO11004 course. Students highly valued the open learning environment, ability to ask questions and engage in discussion, and the teaching staff applying these skills back into a relevant clinical context.

Recommendation

Practical assessment skills will continue to be taught via a combination of visual presentation aids, verbal instructions and educator demonstration, with time for students to practice these skills in class and seek feedback on their technique from teaching staff.

Action

The practical assessment skills component of the unit continues to be taught using a variety of resources to accommodate learning styles and timely feedback given to students in class.

Feedback from Have your say surveys

Feedback

Provide additional visual/video resources for the Neurological assessment components of this course. Move this module earlier in the semester to allow more time for study prior to its inclusion in the second quiz.

Recommendation

The content of the neurological assessment module will be reviewed prior to the commencement of Term 1 2017, and appropriate additional resources will be included to aid student learning. The order of teaching topics will be reviewed prior to 2017, and considerations will be made regarding the timing and appropriateness of the inclusion of neurological assessment content in the second quiz.

Action

The neurological assessment content was removed from this years quiz as it was unable to be moved earlier in the unit schedule. Neurological assessment skills are examined in the OSCE at the end of the term. The content of this teaching module was reviewed and several additional resources were used to aid student understanding of this complex topic.

Feedback from Have your say surveys, feedback during class and email communication.

Feedback

The instructions for the Group Work Assignment were unclear and greater consistency of information provided is needed for the Group Work Assessment item.

Recommendation

The written instructions and assessment rubric for the Group Work Assignment will be reviewed and modified to improve transparency for this assessment item.

Action

The rubric was reformatted and restructured for the Group Work Assignment to aid student understanding of this assessment item. The written instructions were changed to improve clarity and understanding of the expectations of the assessment.

Task Description

The Practical Assessment Task will consist of two parts that will cover various areas of clinical assessment including physiotherapy note writing, clinical reasoning and physical examination.

During part 1, students will watch a video-recorded interview of a patient and will be required to take notes of the relevant information. Students will need to organize, structure and record their notes as if they were writing a formal patient record. Students will be able to use blank papers in order to create their own relevant headings, and will be provided with a body chart and an ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) problem solving form.

Part 2 of the Practical Assessment will be an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Based on a written case scenario related to physical examination of lower limb, each student will be required to choose, justify and perform relevant physical examination procedures. This section will last for approximately 30 minutes.

Each student will be required to act as a model for the next assessment, once their own assessment is completed. All assessments will be video and/or audio-recorded for moderation purposes.

Academic Integrity Statement

As a CQUniversity student you are expected to act honestly in all aspects of your academic work.

Any assessable work undertaken or submitted for review or assessment must be your own work. Assessable work is any type of work you do to meet the assessment requirements in the unit, including draft work submitted for review and feedback and final work to be assessed.

When you use the ideas, words or data of others in your assessment, you must thoroughly and clearly acknowledge the source of this information by using the correct referencing style for your unit. Using others’ work without proper acknowledgement may be considered a form of intellectual dishonesty.

Participating honestly, respectfully, responsibly, and fairly in your university study ensures the CQUniversity qualification you earn will be valued as a true indication of your individual academic achievement and will continue to receive the respect and recognition it deserves.

As a student, you are responsible for reading and following CQUniversity’s policies, including the Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure. This policy sets out CQUniversity’s expectations of you to act with integrity, examples of academic integrity breaches to avoid, the processes used to address alleged breaches of academic integrity, and potential penalties.

What is a breach of academic integrity?

A breach of academic integrity includes but is not limited to plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, cheating, contract cheating, and academic misconduct. The Student Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines what these terms mean and gives examples.

Why is academic integrity important?

A breach of academic integrity may result in one or more penalties, including suspension or even expulsion from the University. It can also have negative implications for student visas and future enrolment at CQUniversity or elsewhere. Students who engage in contract cheating also risk being blackmailed by contract cheating services.

Where can I get assistance?

For academic advice and guidance, the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) can support you in becoming confident in completing assessments with integrity and of high standard.
