Overview
The unit aims to develop your ability to integrate the knowledge, physical skills, principles of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning, ethical and professional behaviours that are necessary for you to function competently as a physiotherapist. This will include a variety of settings and client groups, with an emphasis on effective and client-centred management plans, within the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
To enrol in this unit you must be enrolled in the CB85 Course and meet the following pre-requisites: PSIO13002 Professional Physiotherapy Practice 1 PSIO13003 Professional Physiotherapy Practice 2
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. See details in the Assessment Policy and Procedure (Higher Education Coursework).

Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 12-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 25 hours of study per week, making a total of 300 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). Consult the University’s Grades and Results Policy for more details of interim results and final grades.

Some students reported that due to the clinical environment that they completed their placement in they found it very hard to refer patients to sub acute services and therefore found the written assessment topic challenging.

Clinical Placements run throughout the year from late January to early December and some may occur outside of term times. You may be required to travel outside of your home town to complete clinical placements. Placements are allocated by the Physiotherapy Clinical Educator Coordinator in accordance with requirements set by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. You will be notified of your clinical placement allocation once you have met all pre-requisites for Professional Physiotherapy Practice 3.
1 Professional Practice Placement
You will complete a 5 week full-time clinical placement as allocated by the unit coordinator. This clinical placement can be in any area of physiotherapy and may be located in any facility ranging from Acute Hospitals to Community programs.
The grade awarded is based on your performance during the 5 week clinical placement and evaluated using the Assessment of Physiotherapy Practice (APP) via the APPLink-up.
You are also required to submit the Hurdle assessment - Placement Evaluation survey via Moodle at the completion of your clinical placement to be eligible to pass this assessment item.
Week 12 Friday (7 June 2019) 11:45 pm AEST
At the completion of their clinical placement from your Clinical Educator.
In order to pass the Clinical Placement you need to meet the "Adequate" level on the Global Rating Score and achieve the following on the APP, as graded by your Clinical Educator:
- A minimum total score of 49.5% for the combined domains of Professional Behaviour and Communication AND
- A minimum total score of 49.5% for the combined domains of Assessment, Analysis and Planning, Intervention, Evidence Based Practice and Risk Management.
If you don't meet the above criteria for the Clinical Placement you will be eligible to sit a Clinical Exam, provided you have achieved an overall grade equal to, or higher than 44.5% for your clinical placement. The Clinical Exam is in the format of an OSCE that will be completed on a real or simulated patient within the area that you completed the clinical placement. The clinical exam will be assessed by two clinical educators, one or more will be a CQUniversity Physiotherapy academic. The exam will run for approximately 60 minutes and will be assessed on the APP.

2 Written Assessment
This assignment has been designed to get you as a new clinician to think about your patient holistically and explore either of the following two options:
A) the vast community based services that exist to further assist your patients outside of the hospital or health clinic you are working within;
B) the multi-disciplinary team within which we work as physiotherapist
We work with our patients to create SMART goals both short term and long term, some of these can't always be achieved with just physiotherapy or the service/facility your working within, so put your thinking caps on and get out and explore the options.
Description
You are required to write an essay based on one of the following options:
A) a community sub acute program that is not Queensland Health funded, that you either referred a patient to or that was available in the health district where you completed your third placement in. You can introduce the case study if you wish, but not compulsory.
Use the literature to outline the benefit for patients to be linked in with community programs post discharge from acute or subacute health care centres to continue their rehabilitation/subacute care. Think outside the box, the program doesn’t have to be run by a health care provider it can be any organisation that will assist patients to achieve their goals. The patient's goals don't always have to be physical in nature, anything that they want to be able to complete, return to as part of their recovery. Transition Care Programs (TCP), Community Based Rehabilitation Teams (CBRT) will not be excepted, as these are Queensland Health funded programs. Some examples of programs that students in the past have reviewed i.e. Men's Shed, Falls and Balance classes, Hydrotherapy classes, Heart Start.
or B) a different discipline within the Allied Health Multi-disciplinary team that you either referred a patient to or that was available in the health district where you completed your third placement in. You need to base this option around a case study to discuss the need for the referral.
Use the literature to outline the benefit for patients to be linked with different disciplines to continue their rehabilitation/subacute care.
The following should be included in your essay:
- Outline of the program or discipline
- Referral process
- Inclusion and exclusion criteria (this may not be necessary for option B)
- Financial cost to the patient (this may not be necessary for option B)
- Location/access
- Length of program (if there is one)
- Any other information relevant to the program – team members etc.

Detailed marking criteria will be available on the unit moodle site, and will be based on the following:
- Presentation (30%)

- Literature to support community program or MDT referral (40%)
The assignment must be within 2250 - 2750 words. Failure to meet this requirement will incur a 5% penalty off the initial mark for this assessment.
