Overview
In this unit you will build upon previous learning and skills in research methods by planning and conducting a supervised research project in the form of a primary study, a systematic literature review, or a service improvement project. You will be required to collaborate with your assigned research group and your main supervisor to present a research project in the form of a manuscript for a relevant peer-reviewed journal and an oral group presentation. You will learn essential research skills that will be useful in your development as an autonomous evidence-based practitioner.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
Recommended Student Time Commitment
Each 12-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 25 hours of study per week, making a total of 300 hours for the unit.

Assessment Grading
This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%). 1 Research Assignment
The Research Assignment has two components:
Research manuscript (60%, group submission) The Research manuscript will take the form of one of the following options, as determined by the project main supervisor who will be a member of the Academic Staff: 1) Systematic Review of the literature on a predetermined topic; and 2) Research project involving data collection and/or analysis, statistical analysis, and write-up on a predetermined topic. This is a group assignment that requires you to design and complete a research study, and analyse the results to draft a manuscript suitable for publication within an academic journal (i.e. manuscript). The formatting and referencing requirements for your manuscript will reflect the author instructions for the chosen journal. The journal will be selected in consultation with your project main supervisor. A copy of the author guidelines must be submitted with your group manuscript. Physiotherapy academic staff, who are external to your project main supervisor will mark each manuscript. These marks will be moderated and the mean of the marks will represent the final mark.
The Research Assignment will have an individually graded component worth 10% of the research assignment weighting, based on the submission of a scientific poster. Your main supervisor will mark your scientific poster. This scientific poster will need to include the following: 1. Title 2. Authors (name credentials, institution, country) 3. Format of abstract: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. The formatting and referencing requirements for your scientific poster will reflect the conference guidelines, which are as follows:

As this is a multi-term Unit this assessment item will be a deferred assessments with due dates in Term 2. The Research Assignment is due on Friday 17th September 2021 at 4:30pm.
Results and feedback will become available within 4 weeks following submission allowing students to address feedback prior to their oral presentation.
The assessment rubric for this task is based on the Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. This quality framework is mapped against the CQUniversity Graduate Attributes and intended to give a holistic understanding of standards expected for the assessment task.
Research manuscript (60%, group submission)
The Research manuscript will be marked by independent members of the academic staff, external to the main supervisor. These marks will be moderated and the mean of the marks will represent the final mark. The categories that will be assessed are the following:

- Standard of academic writing, organisation/ structure/ formatting/author guidelines including abstract (15%)
Scientific poster (10%, individual submission)
The Scientific poster will be marked by your main supervisor. The categories that will be assessed are the following:
- Introduction (15%)

- Discussion and conclusions (15%)
- Visual presentation structure (40%)

2 Presentation
Conference presentation has two components:
- One 3-Minute Oral Presentation, which is an individual submission
- One Conference Presentation, which is a group submission
3-Minute Oral Presentation (individual component 5%):
- This assessment will also require the presentation of a 3-Minute Oral Presentation. This is an individual component, which will be presented to your main supervisor between the following dates: Monday 10th May 2021- Friday 4th June 2021.
- Your main supervisor will schedule the date and time with you.
Conference Presentation (oral group presentation 25%):
- You will present the findings of your research to peers, academic staff, clinicians and members of the community in the form of a conference presentation (oral group presentation) of 15 minutes duration, excluding question time.
- All members of the group are required to present for an equivalent duration (for example in a group of 4 students, each member will present between 3 and 4 minutes).
- This presentation will include the following sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion and Conclusions.
- The date of this group presentation will be scheduled during on Friday 15th October 2021 at 8am and all students must attend in person at their corresponding campus (ROK or BDG).

Dates for 3-Minute Oral Presentation to be arranged with main supervisor. Deadline for 3-Minute Oral Presentation (individual component): 4th June, 2021 5 pm. Group presentation will be scheduled on Friday 15th October at 8 am.
Results and feedback will become available after 2 weeks of the Presentation date.
