General Information

Overview

In this unit, you will explore issues that impact on professional practice, and apply prior learning of paediatric and adult clinical practice to complex and contemporary contexts. You will integrate theoretical and empirical research in the field of speech pathology and debate ethical dilemmas. Professional and interprofessional competencies will be investigated in the context of speech pathology practice.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Continue to include weekly case studies as the primary means by which students apply knowledge from the weekly lectures and practise verbal communication skills to be used in oral exams.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the use of case studies to enhance student learning and preparation for student exams continues to be the main learning approach in tutorials.

Continue to invite people with lived experience and/or industry experts to contribute specialist knowledge to the evolving topics in SPCH14001.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the unit coordinator invites guest speakers to contribute specialist knowledge in 2025 to enhance student knowledge and connections with industry.
