General Information

Overview

In this unit you will have the opportunity to work with children and/or adults through work-integrated learning experiences with a wide range of communication and/or swallowing goals and needs. These experiences will provide you the opportunity to further develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes required in speech pathology practice. A focus will also be placed on applying reflective practice to inform life-long learning. You will also advocate for the profession through health promotion and prevention activities with communities and professionals. Prior to the commencement of the unit, you must complete all pre-clinical requirements and maintain these requirements throughout the unit.

Pre-requisites: SPCH13006 Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 3 SPCH13008 Management of Neurogenic Communication Conditions SPCH13009 Multi-Modal Communication Co-requisites SPCH14001 Integrated Practice in Speech Pathology  

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Alter the nature of the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience to one placement for 12 days so that students have sufficient time to develop competence and apply skills developed to Assessment 1.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Work Integrated Learning experience consists of one placement for 12 days.

Continue to include topics that align with previous WIL units to avoid repetition of content.

Recommendation

It is recommended that all WIL content will be reviewed at the CB87 curriculum meeting in late 2024 to ensure that all topics build upon prior experience.
