Overview
The invertebrates are the largest and most diverse group of animals on Earth, being found in all environments and habitats. This unit provides an overview of the biology, ecology, and taxonomy of the various invertebrate phyla, linking adaptation and evolutionary history to understand the origins and proliferation of this great diversity of life.

Pre-requisites or Co-requisites
Prerequisite BIOL11099 Living Systems or BIOL11102 Life Science Laboratory
Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements
All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes - in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.
Feedback from Email
Some students struggled somewhat with the choice of their research project.
Encourage students to engage early with their research project and offer adequate support throughout term. This will also include a requirement that students advise the unit coordinator of their chosen research project topic by the end of week 4.
Feedback from Moodle Email
One B.Ed. student expressed that they found the content highly useful for their planned career in teaching.
Maintain current unit content to facilitate a broad applicability beyond a strict science focus.
