The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) enables you to develop advanced knowledge and skills in order to work as a Registered Nurse in Australia. This course will build on your existing cultural, theoretical, practical and research knowledge. This course will include 40 hours of on-campus, clinical learning activities. Internal students will complete these hours throughout the term while distance students will undertake a 5-day residential school at the end of the term. You will also complete 240 hours of work-integrated learning after week 12. On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry), you will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Referral by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is a prerequisite for enrolment into the course.
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Re-Entry) are eligible for nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Once registration has been achieved, graduates can choose from many different nursing specialities.

Entry Requirements
To be eligible to enrol in this course, you must first apply to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency for registration in Australia (AHPRA). AHPRA will assess your application and determine your eligibility to work as a registered nurse. If you are not found to be immediately eligible for registration you may be referred to an Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Registered Nurses (EPIQ RN). The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) is an EPIQ RN.
Applicants must be referred by the AHPRA/NMBA to undertake an "NMBA-approved bridging program of study". A copy of this referral must be supplied with your application. Please refer to the 'More Details' section of the handbook for further detailed information.
AHPRA requires an academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or equivalent, with a minimum achievement of 7.0 across all bands. For further information please refer to the Nursing and Midwifery Board Re-Entry to Practice.
Domestic students from non-English speaking backgrounds may be required to undertake an academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum achievement of 7 across all bands and overall prior to undertaking work-integrated learning. This is in order to meet Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 5.6. At the discretion of the Head of Course, students may be referred to an internal English short course at their own expense. This is in order to meet Australia Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 2.2.

Students studying part-time must undertake the subjects in the following order: 1. NURS20160, 2. NURS20163, 3. NURS20164.
NURS20160 and NURS20163 may be undertaken at the same time.
NURS20164:
Mixed-mode Students: NURS20164 incorporates a 5-day (40 hours) residential school held on campus at the end of the term.
Internal Students: 40 hours of education in the clinical learning centre will occur on campus throughout the 12 weeks of term.
All students must complete 40 hours of on-campus clinical learning before attending work-integrated learning. If students cannot complete the 40 hours, they must wait until the next term the unit is offered to reattempt the on-campus clinical learning.
Students will complete 240 hours of work-integrated learning in the clinical environment. Please note work-integrated learning will commence after week 12 of the term. There are two study locations; Cairns and Distance
Education.
People with International Visas will attend lectures on the
Cairns campus, full time.
Australian citizens or permanent residents complete this
course by Distance Education and attend a 5-day residential school at the end
of term, prior to Work Integrated Learning.

Course Structure
Domestic applicants may undertake this course either
full-time or part-time. You can enrol
yourself directly into 2 units once you are enrolled into the course. Please advise the Head of Course (CL02@cqu.edu.au) if you wish to study full
time. The CL02 team will discuss the
requirements of full-time study with you and enrol you into your third unit.

Credit Transfer is not permitted under the accreditation
requirements of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.
Clinical Placement
Clinical placement
occurs at the end of term, after week 12.
Students should
be prepared to travel for clinical placement.
Students should be
prepared for a break between week 12 and the commencement of clinical
placements.
The unit NURS20164 Clinical Nurse Practice has a requirement
of undertaking 240 hours of clinical placement in an approved health facility.
It is a requirement that all students undertaking a clinical placement obtain mandatory security and health checks and
upload these checks to the SONIA system.
Due to the timeframe which some of these requirements take
to complete, it is vital that applicants commence this process as soon as
possible.
Domestic Students
Evidence of compliance with the mandatory requirements are
due 1 week before the Census date.
Students who cannot supply evidence may be asked to withdraw from the
unit.
International Students
The mandatory checks must
be submitted upon application to the course.
Gaining registration
with AHPRA
After you have completed the course, and your grades reflect
that you have passed all units, please send an official academic transcript to AHPRA.
Please ensure the name on your student records is the same
as the name you have registered with AHPRA.
CQUniversity advises AHPRA when you have completed the
course.
