The Master of Medical Ultrasound provides the opportunity for qualified medical sonographers or echocardiographers to undertake professional development in the form of a coursework masters in Medical Ultrasound. This course is a natural top-up qualification to the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography or Graduate Diploma of Echocardiography, enabling you to study areas of advanced practice and/or specialisations in your area of interest. Areas of advanced practice include units in advanced communication, management, governance and research; whilst specialisation units include advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound upper body, advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound lower body, paediatric ultrasound and fetal echocardiography. The advanced communication unit includes issues such as communication in the role as a clinical supervisor, difficult conversations and the skills of report writing. Research involves presentation of a research report or project plan.You will demonstrate leadership within the health care sector by being effective problem solvers and advanced practitioners. Theoretical content will be provided by flexible learning with opportunities in some units to attend practical workshops.This course is recognised for the purpose of continuing professional development by the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
In the Master of Medical Ultrasound students will undertake units in advanced practice or specialisations of their choice. This will see graduates enhancing their career advancement opportunities as specialists in their chosen area and being highly employable in their field of expertise across both the private and public sectors.

The Master of Medical Ultrasound does NOT provide the student with accreditation from the Australian Sonographer Association Registry (ASAR) to practice as a qualified sonographer or echocardiographer. This Master of Medical Ultrasound is for entry by qualified sonographers and echocardiographers pursuing expert knowledge and skills.
Students must choose MEDS21003 Medical Science Research Project 1 as one of their four options if they have not passed a course in research as part of their Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography or Graduate Diploma in Echocardiography.
Credit can not be obtained for any unit which formed part of either the prerequisite Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography or the prerequisite Graduate Diploma of Echocardiography. The student must have completed eight (8) post graduate units as part of their graduate diploma AND will choose an additional four (4) units from within the Master of Medical Ultrasound unit options.
