General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit will introduce building ergonomics, including its effects on human performance and comfort; "universal access" design considerations; and engineering services associated with residential, low rise commercial and industrial building projects. Using industry regulations, standards and codes of practice, students will examine the principles of building services requirements, installation, operation and maintenance relating to: energy usage and needs; natural, extractive and air conditioning ventilation; natural and artificial lighting; security and communications, hydraulic service supply and disposal systems; fire protection; and acoustics.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

The course lacked engagement and pre-recorded lectures would be preferably supported by live tutorials.

The lecturer will continue to encourage engagement during the live lectures.

The lecturer adopted different strategies to improve the engagement of students and the lecturer during live sessions such as: encourage students to interrupt and freely ask questions, Q & A session was followed after each live session.

Feedback
The amount of assessment was too much, more than other units and the questions were dull.
Recommendation
The subject is a core requirement of most students' courses and by nature technical.
Action Taken
The assessment structure was changed using an Updated Unit Proposal (UUP) before the current delivery. According to UUP, assessment tasks, previously were six, are now reduced to three.

I really enjoyed this unit. The lecturer was very knowledgeable and engaging.

The lecturer will continue to support students with current technical information.

The lecturer is very knowledgeable on the subject and provides fairly clear guidance and teaching. He was always early to answer questions and prompt in forum and email responses.
Recommendation
If possible, same lecturer will deliver the unit next time. Same learning and teaching strategies to be adopted in future deliveries is recommended.

Word counts are inappropriately high which leads the assignments to demand quantity over quality.

It is recommended to review this issue during previously suggested internal review of assessment tasks.
