BUSN20030 - Strategies for Business Leaders

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit focuses on the concepts and practice inherent in the strategies used by business leaders. Theoretical models and frameworks are identified to explain how business strategies arise in response to international business competitiveness. Strategic management determines the overall direction of an enterprise. This involves stipulating an organisation's objectives, and developing policies and plans intended to accomplish these objectives by allocating resources necessary to implement plans. You will encounter and evaluate the utility of numerous models and frameworks used in strategic decision-making. You will develop an extensive understanding of the strategic drivers of competitiveness and the process underpinning them. Industry relevance is maintained by embedding research activities into an applied strategic business plan. Strategic management is concerned with the formulation of the most critical objectives and implementation of business initiatives undertaken by senior management. These actions are undertaken for the benefit of the main stakeholders in an organisation, based on available resources after an evaluation of the internal and external environments an organisation competes in. Strategic planning and strategic thinking are related to strategic management. Strategic planning produces and analyses data for input for strategic thinking. Strategic planning is often used to impose control mechanisms when implementing a strategy.
