CART12003 - Music Production 3: Ensemble Performance and Intermediate Songwriting

General Information

Unit Synopsis

In this unit, you will study ensemble performance, theatrical stagecraft and increase the depth of your knowledge on songwriting. At the start of term, you will negotiate with staff to form an ensemble from the student body, and will perform and record in this ensemble. In weekly scheduled rehearsals, mentored by a staff member, you will form a set list that is drawn from covers and your own music, performing this at the second-year performance night. You will explore harmony and rhythm fundamentals from the perspective of expert professional practice as applied across a wide range of contemporary song genres including (but not limited to) Country, Rock, Jazz, Funk, RnB, Rap, Metal and Indie/Folk. You will consider songwriting harmony, useful chord progressions and structure, and a variety of rhythmic platforms appropriate for songwriting. At the end of term, you will understand, explain, differentiate and apply fundamental techniques of song harmony and rhythm. You will also attend a theatrical stagecraft course and explore the concepts of stagecraft.
