CART12008 - Acting 4: Acting and the Spoken Word

General Information

Unit Synopsis

In this unit, you will learn how acting is a spoken performance form requiring mastery of your speaking voice in two important spoken techniques: accents and monologues. You will work on your voice developing your articulation, vocal resonance, and projection. You will examine different accents using international scripts. You will learn the art of phonetics and how that can identify subtle differences between accents. You will explore the nature of the monologue and how to get the most out of your voice when there are no other actors to distract.

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).
