CHIR12005 - Foundations of Chiropractic Practice 3

General Information

Unit Synopsis

In this unit you will build your knowledge of the principles and practice of chiropractic management including radiographic analyses. You will demonstrate your psychomotor skills acquisition in manipulative/adjusting techniques of the lumbar spine and lower extremities. You will learn musculoskeletal screening assessment protocols.You will continue to develop your palpation skills and throughout the unit, you will apply your knowledge of related functional biomechanics. You will continue to develop your awareness of current public health issues and its integration into chiropractic.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

The students appreciated the use of interactive and innovative online apps to enhance their practical learning while off campus due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the unit coordinator continue to provide interactive tutorials including: problem-based learning sessions supported by innovative online apps and software (like Kahoot and H5P).
Action Taken
The classes returned to on campus and therefore there was no need to continue with the online tutorials.

The students appreciated the weekly study guide questions and tasks to assist them with keeping on track.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the unit coordinator continues to offer weekly self-paced practice material for students to assist them with comprehension of content and assessment preparation.

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, students struggled with the transition to online learning, and missed the practical components of the unit.
Recommendation
It is recommended that when it is safe to do so future offerings of this unit should return to weekly face to face teaching.

Some students would have appreciated CQUni chiropractic specific resources. Specifically, they would like videos of the different tasks to allow for home review and practice.

It is recommended that the discipline explore the possibility of creating video recorded teaching resources.
