COIS12073 - Enterprise Systems

General Information

Unit Synopsis

Enterprise Systems (ES) have become increasingly popular since the early 1990s. One goal of these systems is to provide an encapsulation of core business processes and information. Many organisations have acquired ES technology, however there are considerable risks associated with ES implementation, maintenance and on-going use. This course aims to equip students with the information required to inform ES adoption, selection and implementation decisions and the ability to communicate this knowledge to their peers and employers.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Video recordings detailing assessment requirements helped both distance and on-campus students.
Recommendation
Continue to provide video recordings explaining the requirements for each assessment.
Action Taken
For on campus students, assessments were discussed during class time and for DST students online tutorials were conducted to make sure that they had a chance to ask questions about the assessment tasks. Video recordings specifically explaining assessments were not provided however this will be implemented in Term 2, 2023.

Students enjoyed completing Odoo ERP related tasks.
Recommendation
Provide additional tasks to allow students to use Odoo ERP and gain more knowledge in using ERP systems.

  2. Examine the role of ES in organisations and evaluate their adoption and use characteristics.
  3. Discriminate between and describe the common ES modules and their features.
  4. Compare and contrast the major vendors and their products.
  5. Analyse the individual activities associated with an organisation's ES selection, planning, implementation and ongoing support phases.
  6. Describe the roles of the key stakeholders in an organisation's ES selection, planning, implementation and ongoing support phases.
  7. Develop and justify an argument for the support or rejection of an ES adoption decision in an organisation.
  8. Examine the role of business process remodelling during ES adoption and implementation.
  9. Evaluate the risks associated with changing an ES rather than altering organisational business processes.
  10. Assess risk factors associated with an ES implementation project and how they can be managed.
  11. Examine the role of training and change management during an ES implementation.
