General Information

Unit Synopsis

This course provides students with foundational knowledge of the infrastructure and management of computer-based information systems as practiced in modern organisations. The course is designed to prepare students for more technically advanced studies in the area of information systems and technologies. Students will study the physical and logical components of information systems and technologies at a conceptual level. This includes concepts and terminology relating to networking, data communications technologies, hardware and software fundamentals and data storage. The course approaches information systems and technologies from a business management perspective and includes study of the specific issues associated with the successful management of information systems. Students will undertake a review of contemporary theory to develop foundational knowledge in preparation for a professional career in ICT. This core course in the BIT program enables students to gain knowledge and understanding for later study of advanced courses.**STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN OR WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED COIS11011 FOUNDATIONS OF BUSINESS COMPUTING CANNOT ENROL IN THIS COURSE.**

International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Written Assessment 10%
2. Online Quiz(zes) 5%
3. Written Assessment 30%
