Unit Synopsis

In this unit you will examine the role of research and researchers in the domestic and family violence context. You will appraise challenges and considerations associated with the conduct of research, including those unique to this field of practice. You will identify and critique research methods thereby developing your research skills. You will also consider priority populations, risk, safety, and ethics.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

"The content was presented in a logical manner and was easy to understand. However, my favourite thing is the constant support in relation to assessment. "Although I struggled with this unit as it is not something that I am familiar with, I found this unit to be quite rewarding. The best aspect is the personal interaction with course coordinator via various forms of communications, such as, on-line recorded lectures & discussions, face-to-face via zoom meetings and emails. The offer to have regular weekly Q & A sessions via Zoom was invaluable".
