EDFE20033 - Graduate Internship

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This is the final professional experience for Graduate Diploma pre-service teachers completed as a 30 day internship in a school context under the supervision of a mentor teacher. An internship provides you with the opportunity to explore your role as a teacher in a context which provides support and mentoring, as well as independence and responsibility through building your self-confidence and self-belief as a teacher. You will build upon your existing skills, enabling you to become an autonomous, reflective, collaborative professional ready to enter the teaching profession through demonstrating the professional, ethical and values-based standards and competencies required of beginning teachers. Completed within the context an “Internship Authorisation” from the Queensland College of Teachers, you will adopt up to but not exceeding 50% of the mentor’s working load and engage in team teaching, reflection and evaluation with the mentor for the remaining 50%. Internship requirements are outlined in the Internship Guidelines Booklet supplied to mentor teachers in schools. You will submit evidence of meeting the professional standards at graduate career stage during your internship through an evidence-based statement that is inclusive of your teaching philosophy uploaded into your ePortfolio. To pass this unit you will also need to supply evidence of successful completion of the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students.
