ENTG11001 - Computer Aided Drafting

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This course develops computer-aided design and drafting skills. It extends the learning outcomes developed in prior engineering drafting studies. Students develop skills in 2D and 3D drawing incorporating solid and surface modelling and rendered images. They use CAD to solve common geometric design problems, including use of auxiliary views and descriptive geometry techniques. Working, detail, and assembly drawings will be produced to AS1100 standards. Students also demonstrate an effective, professional level of teamwork and communication and support collaborative learning, and produce drawings and sketches in a professional manner. Distance education (FLEX) students will need to have computer access and to make frequent use of the Internet. Students will need frequent access to a Microsoft Windows computer loaded with appropriate CAD software identified in the Learning Resources.

Prereq: [ENAG11001 or ENTA11010] or [ENEG11002 or ENEA11002] Cond: Flex mode is not available to students in Co-op Program CF47

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

  1. Draw, discuss and interpret 2D drawings, surface modeling, 3D solid modeling and rendering using CAD software. [2, 3,4, 5]
  2. Produce assembly drawings and part lists for engineering artifacts to AS1100 standards. [2, 3, 4, 5]
  3. Produce component detail drawings from an assembly drawing for engineering artifacts. [2, 3, 4, 5]
  4. Produce detail drawings of engineering artifacts requiring primary and secondary auxiliary views. [2, 3, 4, 5]
