Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Student Unit Evaluation
Feedback
Students did not find assessment feedback useful.
Recommendation
It is recommended that additional resources be developed for how to find and interpret feedback.
Action Taken
Additional resources were provided to students for accessing feedback. Further, markers were instructed to provide detailed, individual comments throughout student work to assist them for improving their subsequent assessments.
Source: Self-reflection
Feedback
Students are not attending lectures either on campus or via Zoom.
Recommendation
It is recommended that lectures are pre-recorded, while tutorials are delivered live (and via Zoom), as these would be more engaging for students and have specific application to assessment tasks.
Action Taken
A restructure of learning content was completed, by pre-recording a lecture, followed by a live tutorial activity for each week.
Source: Student Unit Evaluation
Feedback
Students requested copies of PowerPoint slides from tutorials.
Recommendation
It is recommended that PowerPoint slides used in tutorials be provided to students to assist with their studies.
Action Taken
All tutorial teaching material including lecture slide handouts was provided to students in addtion to the recordings.
Source: Student communication
Feedback
Support from the Academic Learning Centre was well received.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the ALC continue to be utilised throughout this unit to assist students with writing and research skills.
Action Taken
The ALC continued to engage with students to assist in the completion of the written assessment tasks.
Source: Informal student feedback
Feedback
Students enjoyed the interactive live tutorials compared to previous years where a live lecture was delivered, however there could be more opportunity for two-way discussion.
Recommendation
It is recommended that live tutorial activities continue; however, teaching staff should attempt to promote further student engagement via live quizzes and/or two-way question and answer activities.
Action Taken
Nil.
Source: SUTE
Feedback
Some of the research papers provided were not relevant to study topics for weekly tutorial activities.
Recommendation
It is recommended that a selection of research articles are provided each week to students on a range of topics to allow them to select the most appropriate to their course.
Action Taken
Nil.
