Unit Synopsis

This unit covers investment analysis of complex investment portfolios. You will be introduced to contemporary investment theories and construct a client focused portfolio. You will examine the risks associated with domestic and international investment products.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Quicker turnaround times on the return of assessments
Recommendation
Ensure that Sessional graders meet the 14 day grading turnaround in future.

Grading was performed by the unit coordinator and completed within 14 days.

Students found the amount of content overwhelming
Recommendation
Review, revise and revamp the unit content to appear less overwhelming. Replace prescribed textbook with content developed by the unit coordinator. This includes replacing the prescribed text overhead slides with new simpler content developed by the unit coordinator.
Action Taken
Continue to make the content less overwhelming by reviewing the content while meeting the accreditation requirements.

Recordings of readings were useful
Recommendation
Contine to offer recorded readings where applicable.
Action Taken
Create audio recordings of the readings for students who do not want to read, but prefer to listen.

Technical internet speeds were problematic during some Zoom Workshops
Recommendation
Telstra has fixed the internet speed problem and this should hopefully be less of a problem going forwards.
Action Taken
Replaced Telstra NBN with Starlink, which resilved the technical internet speed issues for the unit coordiantor and the students

Prescribed textbook solutions were useful in preparing for the exams.
Recommendation
When giving students questions, continue to provide them with worked solutions. However, if the textbook is removed, prescribed text books solutions will have to be removed too and replaced with new questions from the unit cooridinator.

Encouraging students to engage via Moodle Q&A Forum and share their answers and collaborate to create their own solutions for the Study Guide and Workbook Questions

Feedback
For someone who works full time, there is too much content and expectation that someone has 12 hours each week to do weekly content and assignment work.
Recommendation
Continue to set the expectations of students who work full-time that they are required to work 12 hours per week on the unit content and assessment or enrol in less units per term so that they do have the 12 hours per week to spend on the learning materials and assessment of the unit.

I realize that there is a lot of content to cover, perhaps having recorded lectures and then using the workshop time to go through some of the resources to illustrate how they will be used in the future would be more beneficial.

Will use Workshops to work through the content online.
