HONS20003 - Coursework C

General Information

Unit Synopsis

Coursework C is the third of four Honours coursework courses. Honours coursework takes two forms: 1. A preset course where the learning outcomes, learning materials, assessment and assessment criteria have been determined in advance and provided as an already packaged course (these are provided on the Program Moodle site). 2. A reading course where the learning outcomes, assessment and assessment criteria are negotiated with staff in the chosen discipline. In both cases, the learning outcomes, content and assessment will be negotiated with and/ or specified by the course coordinator for the chosen discipline and provided to the student no later than one week of the commencement of Term. Full details of course options will be provided on the Program Moodle website. Further information about honours The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Program combines coursework and dissertation to prepare graduates who have coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines as well as practical knowledge of research principles and methods. Graduates will have advanced cognitive skills and be able to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge and be able to identify and provide solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence. The Program is available in the following disciplines: Creative Writing, Digital Media, Geography & Environmental Studies, History, Literary & Cultural Studies, Music, Professional Communication and Sociology. The Honours Program comprises 50% coursework (normally 4 courses) and 50% dissertation. The coursework involves supervised reading courses. Students will consult with an academic in the relevant discipline and negotiate suitable topics. The dissertation typically involves a supervisor, an agreed topic, and the outcome is a dissertation of 15-20,000 words. Details of the specific learning outcomes, set texts and readings, materials and assessment will be negotiated with the supervisor. Please note: Students cannot complete the Honours Program without appropriate supervisors and agreed topics.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Postgraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

1. Written Assessment 100%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Recommendation
As part of implementing the new structure of the BA Honours, close attention will be paid to developing the new coursework units.
