HRMT19016 - Contemporary Organisational & H R M Studies

General Information

Unit Synopsis

The objectives of this unit are far-reaching and intended to introduce students to the emerging issues in future organisations and the management of the Human Resources of these future organisations. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening good verbal and written communication skills; locating and delineating future issues; and, the development of strategic responses to best utilise the opportunities presented by the emerging future organisational issues. Models for analysing and making predictions about future issues, social change and the role, structure and nature of future organisations will be rigorously examined in this unit. Development of a strategic mindset will be sought from this unit.

Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback
The subject is very interesting but there was not enough exemplar provided during the assignment.
Recommendation
The unit coordinator will provide more assessment exemplars and resources in the context of contemporary Human Resource Management.
Action Taken
More information and examples were provided to clarify the context of contemporary Human Resource Management. For example, the eReading list has been very effective in providing various resources to support lectures and workshops. In addition, weekly topics, lecture discussions and assessment preparations have been guided with sharing high ranked HRM journal papers and business cases. The CQU Student Guide that guides how to prepare/write various assessment tasks has also been uploaded to Moodle.

Feedback
Assessment information was difficult to find and the instruction for the assessment should be more clearer.
Recommendation
The Unit Coordinator will better explain the positioning of assessment information on the Moodle website and further clarification regarding the assessment task will be provided. Assessment information videos will be used.
Action Taken
Recorded lectures and Zoom sessions for workshops have been conducted weekly and recorded and uploaded to Moodle to facilitate students. I discussed Moodle navigation and study materials during the workshops, including assessment information and further clarification regarding the evaluation task. HRMT19016 Moodle included video recordings for assessment preparations in addition to the weekly recorded lectures and workshops.

Quicker response to assessment questions posted in learning community. Assessment tasks not clearly written and difficult to understand.
Recommendation
Provide further notes and information for each written assessment, discussions with Q & A sessions, and video recordings explaining each assessment and their tasks with examples.

Feedback
Some comments provided in the marked assessments were confusing or did not fully explain what could have been improved. Particularly for assessment 1, the lecturer seemed to have skimmed when marking, as comments were provided about missing elements, which were included in the assessment.
Recommendation
The marking comments and additional notes to look into the complete text comment in the feedback studio need to be demonstrated to the students. It is important to provide a little narration or information rather than just putting question marks or symbols.
