LNGE11028 - Basic Italian

General Information

Unit Synopsis

In this unit, you will be developing vocabulary in the Italian language, alongside basic conversational skills, through various mediums, including film, television and song. Using enquiry-based learning, you will develop Italian vocabulary and grammar, through the use of IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). This unit will encourage you to become independent reflective learners, thereby increasing your own cultural and linguistic competence. By the end of the unit, you will be able to hold a basic conversation in Italian and translate basic phrases into both idiomatic Italian and IPA. This unit is especially useful if you are a student studying classical voice as you are often required to sing in the Italian language, or if you have a general interest in learning Italian for personal interest.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: In class
Feedback
A desire for more classes
Recommendation
If the timetabling allows, add in a second class, or break the current class in two with one class having a grammatical and written focus, and the other a conversation focus.
Action Taken
The unit was split across two classes, which was a successful approach and students benefited from focused sessions across the written and spoken language.
Source: In class
Feedback
A request for an intermediate class
Recommendation
As this unit will not be continuing from 2022 as part of CQU Renew, this request can not be accommodated at this time.
Action Taken
There is a continued request for a subsequent unit to follow on from this one, but it is not possible to fit into the CQU Renew structure.
Source: In Class
Feedback
A desire for further units to continue on in both Italian and a beginner unit for other languages eg. German
Recommendation
This unit will become archived in the hopes that one day it can be revived and built upon to accommodate these requests.
Action Taken
Nil.
