Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Assessment Overview

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task Weighting
1. Written Assessment 30%
2. Online Quiz(zes) 15%
3. Practical and Written Assessment 20%
4. Examination 35%

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Students feedback
Feedback
Some students found time management of assessment items difficult across the term, suggesting assessments for multiple units were too closely spaced.
Recommendation
Consider timing of assessments to allow a better distribution of assessment across the term's units.
Action Taken
Timing of assessments tasks across the term's units was more evenly spread.
Source: Student feedback
Feedback
Students felt they needed more access to practical lab sessions to improve their understanding of what is required in a clinical setting
Recommendation
Investigate the feasibility of including a peer assisted session to allow students access to an additional lab session and provide "make up" time for any students that missed scheduled lab sessions due to illness.
Action Taken
"Make up time" for students that missed their scheduled lab sessions due to illness was provided.
Source: SUTE
Feedback
Students found tutorials informative and helpful in terms of unpacking and gaining a deeper understanding of the lecture content.
Recommendation
Explore ways to further enhance tutorial content and increase attendance so that more students can benefit from the interactive tutorials.

Unit learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Identify the gross, cross-sectional and relational anatomy and vasculature of the normal female pelvis, gravid pelvis and fetal development.
  2. Recognise normal and abnormal obstetrical sonographic appearances of gravid female and foetal development.
  3. Recognise key features of embryology as they relate to foetal development.
  4. Solve sonographic imaging problems using a variety of strategies.
  5. Critique images for diagnostic sufficiency and, if necessary, initiate corrective action.
  6. Classify laboratory data relevant to the female pelvis and gravid female.
  7. Incorporate patient history and laboratory data into an interpretive report and differential diagnosis.
  8. Communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  9. Practice creating an interpretive report from sonographic images.
