MEDS13006 - Medical Sonography Clinical Course 3

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This clinical course will provide opportunities to apply and integrate both theoretical and practical knowledge, concepts, skills and professional behaviours in the clinical environment, independently and under the supervision of qualified professionals. Gynaecological ultrasound, first trimester obstetric ultrasound, deep venous thrombosis and carotid studies will be the primary studies practised. Students will consolidate and advance studies of the Abdomen, urinary tract and superficial parts. Behavioural aspects of professional practice are emphasised and students are expected to reflect on their own performance and to exhibit the highest level of safe patient care. Critical appraisal of performance will enable students to advance their own patient care, professional, technical and analytical skills in a work setting, independently and under supervision.

Feedback, Recommendations and Responses

Every unit is reviewed for enhancement each year. At the most recent review, the following staff and student feedback items were identified and recommendations were made.

Source: Video call and phone call communication
Feedback
The newly introduced clinical placement checklist has been well received by students, supervisors and has been valuable for the unit coordinator.
Recommendation
Consider continuing to have this checklist in place
Action Taken
The clinical placement checklist remained and was well received.
Source: Phone call communication
Feedback
Add a mid-placement attendance form so that clinical academics (as well as other university staff that may need this information) can be up to date with student clinical placement hours.
Recommendation
Consider having a mid-attendance form for students to fill out and upload mid-placement
Action Taken
A mid-attendance form was not implemented. Student hours could be indirectly checked via the clinical log that students submitted fortnightly.
Source: Annual Course Enhancement Review (ACER)
Feedback
Consolidate the clinical case log and clinical attendance into one assessment item.
Recommendation
Consider consolidating the clinical case log and clinical attendance into one assessment item.
Action Taken
Nil.
