MRKT19040 - Marketing Plans

General Information

Unit Synopsis

This unit involves students directly in the writing of detailed, integrated marketing plans and the evaluation of plans. There is also a focus on the actual implementation of the marketing planning process and the Marketing Plan document. Both Annual Marketing Plans and new Product/Brand Plans will be included.

Important note: Students enrolled in a subsequent unit who failed their pre-requisite unit, should drop the subsequent unit before the census date or within 10 working days of Fail grade notification. Students who do not drop the unit in this timeframe cannot later drop the unit without academic and financial liability. Attendance Requirements

All on-campus students are expected to attend scheduled classes – in some units, these classes are identified as a mandatory (pass/fail) component and attendance is compulsory. International students, on a student visa, must maintain a full time study load and meet both attendance and academic progress requirements in each study period (satisfactory attendance for International students is defined as maintaining at least an 80% attendance record).

Recommended Student Time Commitment

Each 6-credit Undergraduate unit at CQUniversity requires an overall time commitment of an average of 12.5 hours of study per week, making a total of 150 hours for the unit.

This is a graded unit: your overall grade will be calculated from the marks or grades for each assessment task, based on the relative weightings shown in the table above. You must obtain an overall mark for the unit of at least 50%, or an overall grade of ‘pass’ in order to pass the unit. If any ‘pass/fail’ tasks are shown in the table above they must also be completed successfully (‘pass’ grade). You must also meet any minimum mark requirements specified for a particular assessment task, as detailed in the ‘assessment task’ section (note that in some instances, the minimum mark for a task may be greater than 50%).

Some students valued having access to weekly recorded Zoom sessions.
Recommendation
Offer weekly Zoom workshop/s to address leaning activities and to discuss assessments. All Zoom sessions to be recorded and uploaded to the unit Moodle site within 24 hours for the benefit of those students who cannot participate.

A single weekly timetabled Zoom workshop was provided addressing learning activities and to discuss assessments. All weekly Zoom workshops were recorded and uploaded to the unit Moodle site within 24 hours.

Some students were receptive to the provision of assessment guidelines, marking rubrics, mark sheets and exemplars.
Recommendation
Provide students with additional assessment support in the form of exemplars, guidelines, marking rubrics, and mark sheets. Each of these items to be made available to students through the unit Moodle site.

Additional assessment support such as exemplars, guidelines, marking rubrics, and mark sheets were made available to students through the unit Moodle site before the commencement of term.

Some students liked communicating with the unit coordinator through scheduled weekly Zoom workshops addressing weekly learning activities and to spend time discussing assessments.
Recommendation
Offer at least one weekly timetabled Zoom workshop to address the leaning activities and to discuss assessments. All Zoom meetings will be recorded and uploaded to the unit Moodle website within 24 hours. This will help students who can't attend.

  1. Determine how important the planning process is to formulating a marketing plan.
  2. Identify the range of information required by a company and its product/service offerings in order to engage in market planning.
  3. Develop skills in the use of major analytical tools pertinent to the process of marketing planning.
  4. Develop the key analytical skills and competencies for effective market analysis and planning.
  5. Develop ability to utilise analytical data to develop creative solutions in the form of marketing objectives, strategies and tactics.
  6. Construct and evaluate major components of a marketing plan.
